Professional Hopes and Goals

My Hope:

One hope that I have for when I think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is that i will be able to serve them to the best of my abilities to help them feel welcomed. respected, and valued at all times. I want to be able to ensure them that no matter what background they come from that their opinions, and ideas matter just as much as the next person. I want us to be able to learn and grow together as their child learns in the classroom. It is important to let families know that no matter what their religion, socioeconomic background, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, language, financial status or any other trait, that they will be treated equally.

My Professional Goal:

One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice is to continue to educate families and educators about diversity and creating equity in the classrooms. I would also like to take part in and make a difference and change how people view others that are not like “them.” It is like Mahatma Ghandi stated “You must be the change that you want to see in the world”. The change starts in us as educators.

You are a great teacher and educator. This has been one of my best courses yet because it allowed me to open up and feel comfortable with who I am as a person without judgment.
