Professional Hopes and Goals

My Hope:

Road-Sign-with-Hope-and-SkyOne hope that I have for when I think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is that i will be able to serve them to the best of my abilities to help them feel welcomed. respected, and valued at all times. I want to be able to ensure them that no matter what background they come from that their opinions, and ideas matter just as much as the next person. I want us to be able to learn and grow together as their child learns in the classroom. It is important to let families know that no matter what their religion, socioeconomic background, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, language, financial status or any other trait, that they will be treated equally.

My Professional Goal:

GhandiOne goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice is to continue to educate families and educators about diversity and creating equity in the classrooms. I would also like to take part in and make a difference and change how people view others that are not like “them.” It is like Mahatma Ghandi stated “You must be the change that you want to see in the world”. The change starts in us as educators.

Note of Thanks:

thank uI would like to say thank you to Dr. Ashlee Horton for the comments to my blogs, discussions, and applications assignment. Thank you for the positive feedback and insights as well. You are a great teacher and educator. This has been one of my best courses yet because it allowed me to open up and feel comfortable with who I am as a person without judgment. I would like to say thank you to all of my colleagues for your wonderful blogs and discussion. It has truly been an honor to be in this course together. We have learned a lot and have grown together as a family over these past seven weeks. I bid you God speed as you continue your educational journey here at Walden University.

  2. Dionna,
Great post! I especially love that quote of Gandhi, it is reminder as you stated the change begins with us. If we choose to see others for who they are and not any of the characteristics that make up their identity we can then learn of their uniqueness without biases. When we have learned about them it is easier to understand their diversity. I admire your hopes and goals and stand with you as an early childhood professional to work along with you within the field to create equity for all. It was a great pleasure getting to know you and learning with and from you during this course. Much blessings.
